Acc tourney win is so big for many of us raised in the sixties and seventies..

First only conference winners participated in the 16 slot ncaa. There were non of these many conferences. Also only the acc had a tourney.

Vt was the black sheep - an independent not any conference member. The acc schools left us and the southern conference and most didnt play us

The acc tourney was covered by jefferson pilot sports network . There was no cable and the acc tourney preempted regular tv . During school- tv were rolled into classrooms so we can keep up during class.

Vt was an outsider and there appeared no way for vt to join the acc or even win the acc tourney..

Acc in the 1970 was md uva unc duke state wake clemson and south carolina .

Boy now vt now part of the acc legacy and won the tourney

So apecial. One of vt biggest athletics win
